Greater Cairo Metro Line 3 :

  • The transportation study, carried out in 1973, suggested that Line 3 should have a length of about 8.5 Km, from Darassa, in the east of the city, to Imbaba in the west, passing through Central Business District and the densely populated areas of Attaba, Boulak and Zamalek.
  •

  • Because of the many changes that have taken place within Greater Cairo since that time, a new Public Transportation Study of the Greater Cairo area was carried out between 1998 and 2000. These changes, which have included, land development and transportation, the rapid increase in population, extended land use, the increase in car ownership and the tremendous use of shared taxis, have made it necessary to update the transport demand model. All of these have greatly altered the transport demand and have considerably affected the previous route of Line 3.
  •

  • The new route of Line 3 is therefore from Cairo International Airport, in the east to Imbaba in the west, passing through Heliopolis, Abbasiya, Attaba and Zamalek. In addition a branch line will connect the main line from Kit Kat Square to Mohandeseen.
