The total annual saving –achieved by the metro line – to the state budget is about 1760 Million EGP (i.e the amount that may closely reach to the metro execution cost ), in addition to the saving in health and the other indirect benefits .
Upgrading Line 1 of the Metro :
For the ease of line 1 & 2 passengers , about 3.5 Million Passengers /Day ,NAT in collaboration with the Cairo Metro Organization (CMO) have put the following upgrading projects for line 1 & 2 within its priorities :
1- Purchasing 3 no. Auxiliary vehicles for Line 1 , October 2012.
2- Purchasing 20 no. air-conditioned trains for Line 1 , December 2012 .
3- Renovation , upgrading and expansion of Tura El balad workshop , July 2011.
4- Consultancy works for upgrading and raising the efficiency of Line1, March 2013.
5- Execution of New El Marg extension , January 2014.
6- Execution of kossika light repair workshop, February 2014.
7- Upgrading New El Marg station, January 2014.

The line length is 44 km, about 4.7 km thereof is a Tunnel route . The line stations are 35 stations , 5 no.Thereof are underground stations .Cut and cover is the execution Method of the line within one of the most crowded areas in Cairo .
Line1of the Metrois considered the backbone of the Greater Cairo underground metro network . It is the first underground metro line in Africa , the middle east and the Arabian area, where Cairo has recorded its priority to use this kind of the advanced ,safe and express means of mass transport
The designed capacity of the line is 2 Million Passenger/Day .
Line 1 extends New El Marg station at its intersection with the Ring Road , passing through Ain Shams, Mataria, Hadayk El Koba area and then Ghamra, Ramses square, Tahrir square, Sayeda Zainab, Maadi and Tura, passing through Massarra area up to Helwan.
